In the meanwhile we had been to Namibia and Newfoundland together and to Colorado on separate and unsuccessful hunts. We both had a yearning for that vast emptiness of the north. For me particularly, it was a yearning not only for the untrammeled character of the last frontier, but for the purity of the hunt itself. Our experience in Newfoundland left a noxious taint that lingered still, faint but persistent, and my frustrating hunt in November in Colorado, in which I came achingly close to success had been spoiled by, not the failure, but the exploitation of an unscrupulous outfitter who overbooked the camp in the last week of the season we had seventeen hunters instead of the advertised six. Both of these outfitters asked a lot of money for almost nothing in return and the surprisingly unpleasant personality of each proved the most unwelcome of camp mates on those hunts. I worked very hard on both hunts, hopelessly in Newfoundland and with slim, but real hope in Colorado and of this I have no regrets. But the hunt experiences had been spoiled by lousy outfitting and worse company. My brother and I were ready to restore purity to the experience; hunting in unquestioned fair chase, with deep respect for the game and love of the chase, in conditions that might be primitive, but were well provided, and where we knew beyond any doubt that there would be game.

This was one of the first over-and-under shotguns to be put into mass production, and originally called the Superposed. Browning then designed a shotgun more suited for fowl hunting. FN balked until Browning lowered the price — twice. The Superposed was originally produced from , though prototypes were available as early as ; World War Two interrupted production until , and continued until Original production was with Grade I walnut with non-engraved receivers, and a blued or grayed finish.
John Browning that the Superposed be an affordable alternative to other hunting shotguns IRL, the higher versions of the Superposed could cost big bucks. The original Superposeds had twin triggers which allowed the shotgun to be fired one barrel at a time or both barrels simultaneously. John Browning could never quite perfect the single, selective trigger; the task was not achieved until his son solved the problem, and it was incorporated into existing Superposed manufacturing.
The Superposed turned out to be the last firearm designed and supervised by John Browning. He had a fatal heart attack in The timing could not have been worse — in the stock market crashed, and a big tariff was laid upon the imported shotguns. They were therefore out of reach to many potential buyers.

Design[ edit ] The Model was the first Winchester rifle to feature a box magazine located underneath the action instead of the tubular magazine design, which had remained fundamentally unchanged from the Winchester This allowed the rifle to safely chamber military and hunting cartridges with spitzer pointed bullets. The M was also the last of the lever-action rifles to be designed by John Browning , and featured a rear locking bolt as in his previous designs dating back to the Winchester The M is the strongest lever-action rifle Winchester has produced, designed to handle the increased pressures generated by the more powerful smokeless powder cartridges entering common use at the time of its introduction.
By serial number , it is thought that the last of the flat sided M s left the factory. These early rifles are now exceedingly rare. The United States ordered 10, in caliber. In England these sprightly little arms were called Rook rifles, after their first duty. Today, they are classified here as varmint rifles, even tho a Deer is hardly a varmint. Varmint is a bastardization of vermin, and vermin have always been those unwanted life forms that ruin your stores, and wreck your piece of mind. Now, I profess a great admiration for light, low recoiling, accurate rifles. And while it is true that a.

New Guns for Sale This Week
There are thousands and thousands of upland bird hunters and serious shooters who have no idea how much a properly fitted shotgun would benefit their shooting. Why would a person buy a handsome new sporting gun with no idea of whether the gun fit the shooter or not? Why have a gun safe full of expensive weapons without having them adjusted to a set of measurements that will allow maximum shooting success? When Tiger Woods steps on the golf course, his clubs fit him. Your gun should fit you as well.

He can’t remember when it was given to him by his employees He thinks the early 70’s. My brothers and I loved this rifle and now my father is generously giving it to my son on his 10th birthday. It is in excellent condition. My question is that the serial number is stamped on the bottom of the receiver at the front of the trigger guard not the right side as Browning states.
The serial is 47B I have read many differing opinions as to decoding this serial The B means a Belgian built gun with the year of production precedeing it. This is not possible. The BL wasn’t produced anywhere in None of the numbers together make any year possible. My take on your serial number question, is that ” “, is the actual serial number. Don’t have a clue what the “4” represents? My rifle has very similar number as the first quote.
When and why did production of Winchester’s historic designs move to Japan? A very excellent question. For well over years the production of Winchester rifles and shotguns was associated with the famed, original factory in New Haven, Connecticut. It is true that Winchester was associated with the “Made in America” concept for a very long time. In the late s Winchester Repeating Arms — then often referred to as U.
Jun 06, · Miroku (Japanese Brownings) give up nothing in quality to anyone. They are top notch in every respect. That being said, I had a Japanese and it was the worst fitting gun I ever owned.
By Randy Wakeman The Browning A-5, the most important semi-automatic shotgun ever made, is likely also one of the most misunderstood shotguns, despite its year history. There is an amazing amount of misinformation and misunderstanding about what it was, what it is and what it does. Although at its best in the field, the A-5 won its fair share of National Skeet Championships in the form of the Remington Model It was not designed to be quickly completely disassembled. The ultra-thin screws of the Belgian A-5 served as a deterrent to the would-be home gunsmith.
Likely more A-5’s have been damaged by amateur smithing attempts than any other gun. The information is readily available on what to do, though. Anyone can download the field service manual from Midwest Gun Works if they are curious. You can tune into Art’s at http: While periodic field-stripping, inspection, lubrication and normal cleaning is easy enough as described in the A-5 owners manual, beyond replacement of brass friction rings and a perhaps a recoil spring, the innards of an A-5 are best left off to a professional like Art who has done thousands of them.
The notion that an A-5 kicks extra hard is wrong.
